Mini-moon, Where To Go?

A mini-moon has multiple meanings. One person will define it as a short trip to take before the wedding (allows for the couple to test out destination wedding sites) or the more popular definition is, a short honeymoon taken soon after the wedding in anticipation of a longer honeymoon later. What are the reasons for taking a honeymoon? Here are a few:

  • Can’t afford a nice trip because of the wedding but can save up for later
  • The couple cannot be flexible with time-off (grad school, military deployment, job change, etc)
  • Overwhelmed with decisions with the wedding and would like defer honeymoon decisions for later

Whatever your reason is, there are a few decisions you need to make with a mini-moon.

  • Decide on a budget. It’s tempting to spend mucho$$. Afterall, it’s your time isn’t it? Well, whatever your budget is, pick one thing you can splurge on while you’re there (and within budget of course) and scale back on everything else.
  • Pick a place with low transportation cost and short travel time. “Low” and “short” has different meanings for everyone so you should decide what your threshold is. Location preferences will depend on where you live and the time of year. The way I pick vacations, I decide on the theme first: beach, mountain, bed & breakfast, etc. And then, I look for package deals on travel sites like kayak.com, bing.com, expedia.com, and so forth.

Locations I’ve known people go to for their mini-moon:

  • Las Vegas
  • Vancouver, Toronto, and other Canadian destinations
  • Williamsburg, VA (couple regretted that one, hehe)
  • Local beach

Where have you heard of people going to for their mini-moon? What were their reasons?
