Running of the Brides 2011

For those who don’t know, Running of the Brides is an event by Filene’s Basement (a department store in select cities) when they put their wedding dresses on super sale. For a nice wedding dress, you would pay a fraction of the cost. A wedding dress that normally costs several thousand dollars can go for just a couple hundred. You can imagine the pandemonium the event creates for brides that are looking for a good deal. People camp out the night before sometimes so that they get first pick at the wedding dresses.

On their webpage, they offer some good advice on how to plan ahead. Joleen and Emily also left some good comments from a previous Running of the Brides. In addition to their advice, I would also add that you might want to shop around so that you know what you want. You don’t want the Running of the Brides to be your first time with wedding dresses because you won’t have time like you would normally at other dress appointments. Your goal for this event is to find the dress and buy.

Here are the remaining events. The next one is in Washington, D.C. on April 29th. So plan ahead and create your team! Please let us know how you do!

One Response to Running of the Brides 2011

  1. Hi Christine- thanks for posting info and dates about the Running of the Brides at Filene’s Basement stores. Your tips, as well as those in response to one of your earlier posts by your readers are great. If anyone wants more, I have a compilation of good tips that I have gathered over the years from brides-to-be who have been successful at this event. Just e-mail me at and ask for tips. New advice and perspectives on the event are always welcome, too. Pat
