Table Decor for Reception Hall with Low Ceilings

Question?

Reader Question:
So the restaurant we booked has low ceilings, and so we’d like to spice it up a bit, if you have any ideas. They have suggested possibly no center pieces because of how much food will be served, they say usually it just gets put on the ground anyways.  So I’ve been trying to think, perhaps hanging centerpieces off the ceiling? What do you think? I’d like them prelit and hanging from the ceilings, and decorated? What do you think? Any other ideas? I’d like to go for the effect of perhaps “floating” centerpieces, if that makes any sense.

I like the “floating” centerpiece idea, especially if it’s the electric lanterns strung together and not open flame. You can find many vendors online, such as Lunar Bazaar. Use the search term “string lights” in Google or Bing. Another floating idea is to hang votive candle holders from the ceiling. The Ritz Carlton in Tysons Corner does this idea in their big reception hall and it looked beautiful. Although for low ceilings, I would put the battery operated candles so that there’s no hazard! You can hang them over the table area so that the tall people do not hit their heads on your decoration.

If you logistically can’t put centerpieces on the table, can you put table runners down? Because if you have only ceiling decorations, the eye will be attracted to keep looking up and less so on the table. There’s so much you can do with table runners because the color, pattern, or material can make it look interesting.

You can also add color or shapes to the table by putting chargers under the dinner plates. If that’s too costly, you could just put a piece of colored/shaped paper that would act as a charger or place mat under the dinner plate and print something on there, like the menu, or a nice thank you note with your future address….something personalized like that.

If you have room in your budget, you can also do seat covers. You can include color by either the seat covers, or you can add sashes.

Those are just a couple of ideas. If I had a picture of what the basement looked like, I could provide more ideas. If you need more ideas to brainstorm, let us know!

Do you have any ideas you can share for this bride? Please leave a comment if you do. :)
