I was driving home from work yesterday, and heard an advertisement on the radio about a website called MissNowMrs.com. I checked it out and it seems pretty legit and could potentially save you a lot of headaches! For around $30 MissNowMrs.com takes you through all the necessary steps of changing your name. The site asks you a number of questions, pulls up the appropriate forms and then provides information on how to print and file them.  There’s even gift certificates you can purchase for the bride to be!

Check it out and let us know what you think!

V-Day Engagement Ring Pic

February 24th, 2010

My friend Jill that I studied abroad with in college recently got engaged and posted this picture of her engagement ring on Facebook. It was such a great pic, I just had to find out how she came up with such an adorable idea and share it with you! She said she had thought about taking a picture of her engagement ring but wasn’t sure exactly how to do it. She debated about what types of props to use, if any, and tried a few things but wasn’t pleased with any of them. She happened to buy conversation hearts on sale after Valentine’s Day and had a dish of them on her desk at work. Looking at that dish of conversation hearts, she had sort of a “aha!” moment. She then began playing around with her camera, putting it on different settings to see what worked. Since diamonds are hard to focus on, she found that the macro setting seemed to work the best. She ended up taking a number of shots, but this one was by far her favorite. Congrat’s on the engagement Jilly :)

If you’re thinking about doing a similar pic, I recommend heading to the store ASAP before all the conversation hearts are gone!

VW- Spring 2010 Collection

February 18th, 2010

I am loving the Vera Wang Spring 2010 bridesmaids dresses. The airy tissue organza, the ruffled layers and sashes, and the crinkled chiffon make this collection one of my absolute favorites. I would have posted all of the dresses if I could, but here are some of my favorite styles and colors from the website:

Homemade Centerpieces

February 10th, 2010

To save some money on her wedding budget, my friend is planning on making her own floral arrangements and centerpieces. She was talking about possible ideas the other day and since her wedding is not until the fall, she has plenty of time to start getting things together for them.  HGTV.com has a lot of great ideas on centerpieces for any time of the year and is a great jumping off point for when creating your own arrangements. The website also provides step by step instructions for lots of centerpiece ideas, although not necessarily for weddings, the ideas could easily work with a little bit of creativity. Here are some of the best that I found and are budget friendly too:

Source: hgtv.com I really like this one, because it could be applied to any color theme just by switching out the food coloring, candles, and berries.

Source: hgtv.com This one doesn’t require any flowers, but still has that dramatic winter wonderland effect. This centerpiece could be used on the dining tables as well as arranged on cocktail tables, serving tables, bars, etc.

Bridesmaid Dress Embellishments

February 3rd, 2010

One trend I’ve noticed this year is having embellishments added to bridesmaid dresses. Whether it’s an extra flower added to the back of the dress, a small broach pinned to the neckline, or different colored sashes wrapped around the waist, embellishments can add that little finishing touch for each bridesmaid.  The possibilities are endless and allow the bride and bridesmaids to personalize the bridesmaid dresses in a unique way.

Are you planning on adding embellishments to your bridesmaid dresses?

Drink Displays

January 20th, 2010

I love going to weddings and seeing what creative ways the drinks or glasses are displayed.  I came across a few websites that offer short-term rentals of canoes, boats, wagons etc. for weddings and other parties.  To give you an idea, check out http://www.vermontweddingprops.com/wagons/. Drink displays, such as self-serve wagons or canoes, allow guests to help themselves and are great for creating a more comfortable feel at your wedding.  I attended one of my friend’s weddings a few summers ago who had a self-serve canoe filled with bottles of water and beer.  It was so easy to just walk up and grab a drink without having to wait in line for the bar. They also had bottle openers tied along the canoe with twine for easy opening as well as pre-cut limes.  Too cute!

Bridesmaid Baby Bumps

January 13th, 2010

A few of my recently married friends have started to have the “baby talk” and as more and more of my friends are getting engaged and starting to plan their weddings, the possibility of being a pregnant bridesmaid has come up in conversation a couple of times. It’s tough because no one wants to be that bridesmaid with a baby bump, but at the same time why should someone put off starting a family or adding to their family because they’re going to be in a wedding or two this year? If you are a bridesmaid that might be pregnant on the day of the wedding, just be honest with the bride and give her as much notice in advance as possible. That way the bride and the rest of the bridal party can plan accordingly for the bridesmaid dresses, shoes, accessories, etc. The bridesmaid dresses are especially a major concern if a bridesmaid is going to be pregnant at the wedding. Luckily, there are a lot of options as more and more designers are creating maternity dress lines. One bridesmaid that I know is going to be almost 8 months pregnant at her sister’s wedding in the spring and the bride was able to select dresses for the bridal party that offered a few maternity options. Granted, you can’t always plan for the future, but if you know or have an inkling that a bridesmaid might be pregnant at the wedding here are a few gorgeous maternity bridesmaid dresses that I came across from simpledress.com to consider:
