So of course, there are people who are Running of the Brides veterans. Each Filene’s Basement sale of coveted wedding dresses goes on mega sale and brides will line up in the wee hours the morning of the sale. This year, Filene’s Basement offers their own tips on their website:
Source: Filene's Basement. One tip is to wear spandex so no need to dressing rooms. Not a place to bring your fiance or dad!
Helpful Tips
The key to being successful at the Running of the Brides® is knowing what to expect.
When the doors open at 8:00am, brides and their helpers rush to the racks, grab wedding gowns and immediately start trying them on. After this initial frenzy the real sale begins, when helpers roam the floor to trade sizes, colors and designers with the other teams. Once you get in the flow of this unique event, it will all make sense. Here are a few guidelines that will help make your experience at the ROTB more successful and fun.
Before You Go
- Recruit your team and assign jobs.
- Create team unity by wearing something matching—for example hats, t-shirts or headbands. This will also help you find each other in the crowd.
- Tear out pages from bridal magazines, or print styles from on-line wedding gown sites to show your team what you’re looking for.
The Day of the Sale
- Dress smart—wear a sports bra or swim suit so you can change in and out of gowns anywhere in the store.
- Leave your handbag at home or pack light for the day.
- Please, don’t wear make-up. White shows everything.
- The sale starts at 8:00am, so if you want to be one of the first through the doors, plan on arriving well before then.
- Not everyone wants to deal with the 8:00am rush. Starting around 11:00am you’ll see dresses going back on the racks and the scene will be calmer.
Be considerate. Once you decide you don’t like a dress, put it back on the rack. It just might be someone else’s dream dress.
The perfect wedding dress is so hard to find sometimes. If you’re shopping for one, there comes a point when they all look the same. I think it’s important to look at several types of design first before intending to purchase something. Here are 21 dresses under $1,000 that Glamour put together. I liked 80% of them, but #2 was my favorite.
And then, if you want to consider something a little different, here are 36 dresses that Glamour claims you haven’t seen before.
I don’t think looking at wedding dresses could ever get old. :O)
How many dresses did you look at before purchasing?
Great news! Another sale has come into town. In celebration of their Second Year Anniversary, Alina Pizzano, located in Pasadena, is offering 20% off all of their gowns! If you or any brides you know are interested in either the Collection or a unique Couture gown, they can come in to receive their discount, which is only good for the month of July. Call them at 626-584-0076 for more information and visit their website to see their collection. They are located on 235 East Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91101. Happy shopping!
Have you ever gone to a wedding and wonder, “what was going through their head when they came up with that outfit?” Well, you don’t want that said about you. It’s good to know some etiquette about expected attire for wedding guests, not because you need to be a stickler for rules, but more because you don’t want to offend the bride or groom. Glamour magazine lists 5 things you should never wear at a wedding. I’ve definitely seen every one of these fashion no-no’s at least once each. Bottom-line, if you’re in doubt, then you can just ask the bride (or some other trusted source from the wedding party). For instance, if a bride is having a very casual wedding, she might not care about wearing jeans. But I think these 5 things that Glamour lists is a good guideline.
What outrageous fashion no-no’s have you seen?
Lots of people give advice about wedding dress shopping but it’s also good to hear from the wedding vendors. Gabriella from Gabriella New York Bridal Salon gives advice about wedding dress shopping in this video.
And if you’ve already bought your dress, here’s a tutorial on how to shop for a matching veil. Earlier, Caitlin also shared about her veil shopping experience with her friend.
Have you come across other wedding dress shopping tips from a bridal salon?
So on the radio earlier this week, the morning show was talking about bridal diapers. WHY?????? Why would someone do this? An article from Marie Claire seemed to have spun off a debate about this product….yes, it’s real. Most brides don’t seem understanding but it exists for a reason. There must be a market for this product else or it wouldn’t exist.
Would you consider using this product on your wedding day? Do you know anyone that has?
It’s interesting to see the ideas brides get for their wedding dress. This dress was a DIY project and was still being worked on the morning of the wedding! Read more about this elopement ceremony in the mountains of California. I really like the shoes. Apparently they are dyables from David’s Bridal.
OKA b was gracious enough to donate their fabulous shoes to our gift bag for our Pamper Me Fabulous event last year. We fell in love with how comfortable, fashionable, and affordable they were! And they now have a bridal line that will fit perfectly with the rest of your wedding ensemble!
OKA b shoes are based on a reflexology-inspired design and each pair has an ergonomic foot bed which includes massage beads. These shoes can provide you with style and comfort throughout your wedding day – from your walk down the aisle until the last dance of the night! Earlier in the month we talked about how J.Crew is launching their bridal boutique in NYC. (They are open now, by the way). Well, I was in Georgetown this weekend and saw that they carry some of the bridal collection so you can try on dresses before ordering them. The actual bridal boutique is NYC and I’m sure that they carry way more dresses but at least you don’t have to travel to NYC if you’re not in the area. J.Crew is offering carrying some of the collections at exclusive stores. These exclusive stores are:
Have you tried out J.Crew’s new collection? What did you think? How are their bridal services?
