Win $150 in Spa Services!

March 4th, 2010

We have another charity raffle but this time it’s for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS)!  Scott (my husband and co-founder of Big Fat Cake) is competing in an olympic-distance triathlon in St. Petersburg, Florida with Team in Training, which is an organization that raises money for LLS.  He’s been training for a couple of months now and needs to raise more money to reach his fundraising goal. Would you help us out and donate $25 or more to his fundraiser? When you donate, please leave a comment with “bigfatcake.com” on the fundraising page to be entered in our raffle for spa services. Big Fat Cake will send the winner a $150 gift certificate to Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salons. You can use the gift certificate for hair, makeup, relaxing massage, or any other salon service. Be sure to leave a valid email address on Scott’s donation page because the certificate will be emailed to the winner.

As my weekend travel plans get canceled due to the impending blizzard, it has me wondering: what happens to a wedding when it *really* snows?

Our last major snow storm also was on a weekend (December 19, 2009), so inevitably there were issues with people’s wedding plans that weekend too. Here’s some tips on dealing with a snowed out wedding:

If the weather puts a damper on your wedding plans, put on a positive face – it’s still your big day! Enjoy it! And maybe even go make a bride and groom snowman :-) .

Sentimental Favors

September 11th, 2009

I love attending weddings where the wedding favor means something to the bride and groom. Maybe it has to do with a hobby they both enjoy doing or relates to a fun experience that they had together. For one of my friends her favor was more than that.

My friend Kari’s father was diagnosed with cancer and is struggling hard to try and fight it. He is one of the most generous and amazing people I know and her family is so grateful that he could be there to celebrate. The wedding was very emotional for all and there was not a dry eye in the room during the father and daughter dance.

Instead of favors, Kari and her husband Brad, opted to donate the money to the American Cancer Society in honor of survivors, fighters, caregivers, those who have lost their battle, and those who have lost loved one to the disease. They had bracelets for each of us to wear with the word hope in big bold letters printed on them. Everyone at the reception had them on, and I know several of my friends and I continue to wear the bracelet in support of Kari’s father.

The donation was a great way to honor Kari’s father as well as everyone who is affected by cancer. I was so thankful to be included in something that held such significance, and appreciated that the favors were so meaningful to the family.
