bridal shower invitation with pink cupcakes and pink pretzels

My brother-in-law is getting married in August! Yay! I have the wonderful privilege to be a part of their wedding as a bridesmaid. As some of you may already know, I love weddings and what I love most about weddings are the paper goods. For the bridal shower, the bride picked out a cute invitation from weddingpaperdivas, who were a pleasure to work with. The turnaround for the proof and the actual invites was so quick and seamless.

For the shower, the bridesmaids wanted to do a recipe box for the bride. Since I was in charge of sending out the invites, I wanted to send these cards with the invitation so that the guests would be able to fill them out before the shower. First, I scanned the invite pattern to create the cards (with Adobe photoshop), so that it would match the invitation. I found a cute recipe box from Hallmark so that it would be convenient for the bride to take home.

Other than sending out the invitations, I was also put in charge of some of the games. For one of the games, I took the same invite pattern and made blank cards for the “who am I?” game. When the guests arrived, they were instructed to write out a memory they have shared with the bride without including their name. Later on, we had the bride read the cards aloud and guess who each was written by. Imagine the nostalgic atmosphere it created. The cards made a lovely keepsake for the bride.

Another game we played was the buzz word game. To begin, choose a “buzz word” such as bride, groom, wedding, etc. To go along with the invitation pattern, I made flowers out of felt and put them on bobby pins to use for this game. When each guests comes into the party, we handed them each with a felt flower. Then, if someone hears another person saying any of the “buzz words,” they get to take that person’s flower. The person with the most flowers at the end of the party wins.

Check Out Rasmus' Auction for Wedding Gowns. Source: Rasmus

Rasmus is an online auctioneer that auctions assets from closing businesses. Scott shared this site with other friends who started their own business or to folks who were looking for furniture. Well, a Northern Virginia bridal company is going out of business and they are conducting an online auction for: Wedding Gowns, Evening, Cocktail and Children’s Gowns. They don’t say what company it is but it’s definitely worth an online visit! There’s a preview on Dec 3 but the actual auction starts Dec 4 @11AM. Check it out! I definitely will. :O)

BTW – Happy Black Friday! If anyone has any successful bridal purchases, I would like to hear!

Source: Luxury Wedding Expo

Companies have tried online wedding expos but I feel like they never gained much participation. However, someone like Martha Stewart will probably invite a crowd. I signed up but not sure that I will attend but I know lots of other people would appreciate this online Luxury Wedding Expo she is hosting. If you attend, please let me know how it goes. Either comment on this post or hit the “Feedback” button on the middle right of the page.

Be sure to enter the sweepstakes during the times they mention.

Bridal Shows Galore

October 1st, 2009

In need of several wedding vendors? It may be a good idea to visit a bridal showcase where you can talk to many vendors in the same day. There are several coming up in the DC and NYC areas:

The Great Bridal Expo:

The Bridal Showcase in DC area:

  • October 4, in Bethesda, MD

Bosco’s Bridal Showcase in NYC area:

  • October 7, 09            Tarrytown
  • October 12, 09          Smithtown
  • November 5, 09       Stamford
  • November 11, 09     Bronx

I would suggest nailing down the wedding date and location before going because that will help weed out vendors who are unavailable to you. Otherwise, you will collect alot of information that you won’t end up using. When I went for my wedding, I came out with an appointment with a photographer (whom I chose eventually) and booked a chocolate fountain! If you miss any of these coming up, don’t worry because bridal shows like these occur at least once a month in major areas. If you live in other locations, it’s still worth it to check out the websites because they list bridal shows for cities across the country. If you purchase tickets online, it’s a couple of bucks cheaper than if you were to purchase at the door.
