Jocelyn and David incorporated many cultural items in their wedding but for this post, I wanted to focus on their attire.

The couple was busy with the many wardrobe changes during the reception but it was worth it to celebrate and honor all three (American, Chinese, and Korean) traditions. Congratulations Jocelyn and David! Now newlyweds in NYC. :O)

<question> Hi. What is going on with all these weddings over long holiday weekends? Doesn’t the couple know that it’s inconvenient for everyone? Thanks. </question>

Weddings over long holidays provide flexibility for the wedding couple. Some receptions sites, if you get married on a Sunday of a holiday, they will give it to you for a lower price. Also, an extra day in the weekend gives the bridal party more time to prepare for the wedding. Yes, it’s inconvenient for the out of town guests because they are forced to travel with the rest of the world, but try to keep in mind that the couple chose to have their wedding over a long weekend for a reason. And if you’re seeing a trend, it might correlate with the economic downturn. Most folks are struggling financially and adding the cost of a wedding is not a pretty sight.

If you are the bride or groom that is getting married over a long weekend, be sure to give your guests earlier notice so that they can plan their holiday schedules around your wedding. Typically, invitations are sent out 2-3 months before, but I would give 4-5 months notice because often, your out-of-town guests will try to see other people and do other things while they are visiting. Also, for your out-of-town guests that are staying at a hotel, provide goody bags with helpful information for their check-in. You can provide water bottle, maybe a coffee gift card, etc so that they can feel welcomed during their stay. It’s also nice to have a brunch the morning after the wedding and sometimes brides/grooms will invite the same guests for the rehearsal dinner the night before. All of this is optional but just try to be generous.

What did you do for your long-weekend-wedding?

<question> My best friend has been my best friend forever. But she’s really irresponsible and I don’t think she’ll be a good maid of honor. Is it wrong to ask someone else? </question>

Remember that your wedding day is not everything and that relationships with people continue beyond the wedding day. Just remembering that thought may determine what you do and what you say to your friends.

Irresponsible Bridesmaid from "Confessions of a Shopoholic." Photo Source: lapetitefashionista.com

Okay, so that being said, before you ask someone else to be your maid of honor, you should talk to your BFF and ask her if she’s willing to be a maid of honor and explain to her the usual responsibilities. She might volunteer herself to be a bridesmaid but also, don’t be offended if she doesn’t want to participate at all. It takes a lot of commitment of someone’s time and money to be a bridesmaid. If you have other bridesmaids that are responsible enough to make up for your maid of honor’s lack of it, then you should be fine. In my opinion, “maid of honor” is just a title.

Keep in mind, not every bride has the whole sha-bang of bridal shower, bachelorette party, engagement party, etc etc. So just because you get a responsible maid of honor, does not mean you’ll “get it all.” I hope this advice helps!

Celebrity weddings happening left and right! This past weekend, Hilary Duff married Mike Comrie, a Canadian hockey player. And she wore Vera Wang, too! Seems like it’s a celebrity trend that no one wants to deviate from since recent celebrities, Chelsea Clinton and Alicia Keys also wore Wang.

Obviously, you can tell there are no good photos online yet of her wedding but here’s the best that’s out there so far. Looks beautiful even in it’s fuzziness.
